CITY JAMES

Genre:
HipHop

Pomona Native, City James is the eye behind some of the most iconic visuals in modern hip-hop—and now he’s turning the lens inward. Before stepping out as an artist, he built his name directing visuals for platinum records like “Me or Sum” by Nardo Wick ft. Future and Lil Baby, and “Chosen” by Blxst. He’s directed nearly every Blxst video since his debut and recently helmed the full visual rollout for Smino’s Maybe in Nirvana. City has worked with legends and innovators alike—Snoop Dogg, Doechii, Isaiah Rashad, BEAM, Maeta—and serves as a close collaborator and Director for all projects under Tim Hinshaw’s Free Lunch, a cutting-edge creative agency and cultural platform.

City has created a certain “eye of LA,” and has spent years documenting the city’s soul from every angle—but his debut project, TIME WAITS FOR NO MAN, is his most personal work yet. A first-generation Guyanese-American and teen father turned full-time creative, City James blends poetic urgency with cinematic storytelling. His music lives somewhere between rap and theater, healing and heat, clarity and chaos. This isn’t a pivot—it’s a reckoning.

From the director’s chair to the mic, City James is no longer just telling stories. He’s finally telling his.
