bLAck pARty
Malik Flint, also known as bLAck pARty, is an Arkansas-born, LA-based multihyphenate whose sound transcends tropical funk, incorporating afrobeats, hip-hop, dashes of country, dub, R&B, and everything in-between. With Los Angeles and Little Rock embedded into his name, bLAck pARty as a student of sunlight, transforming natural flora and fauna into lush soundscapes that capture the image of a sandy paradise. After executive producing Kari Faux’s first EP, Lost En Los Angeles, bLAck pARty caught the eyes of Issa Rae and Donald Glover. Since the 2016 release of his first project, Mango, bLAck pARty has since soundtracked episodes of Insecure, created original compositions for Atlanta, and contributed to Childish Gambino’s Awaken, My Love!.
In truth, bLAck pARty just wants to make people dance. After DJing as Gilga Radio on Childish Gambino’s “The New World Tour,” he found himself captivated by the connection between the DJ and the dancefloor. The different crowds’ receptions left an imprint on his worldview, and for a string of upcoming releases, bLAck pARty acknowledges: “Anything that touches the Atlantic, I incorporated musically.”
Where Mango focused on crushes and limerence, Endless Summer saw bLAck pARty develop as a self-ascribed loverboy, embarking into the intimacy and honeymoon stage of serious relationships. With COVID-19 abruptly ending the Endless Summer, bLAck pARty was forced back indoors, shifting his focus towards self-growth and his next release. Hummingbird became a collection of dance-infused records, wrought with the delicate tenderness synonymous with starting a family. For the finale of his loverboy saga, bLAck pARty looks forward to unveiling a world to escape to musically.
